Associate Membership
Associate members are made up of companies, other Local Authorities outside London, other organisations and individuals. Many of our associate members are Arboricultural contractors and consultants or nurseries.
One of the major benefits of associate membership is access to the member's area of the website. Another benefit is being able to attend LTOA quarterly meetings. These half or full day seminars are free of charge to members. Please see some of the previous agendas to get an idea of the subjects covered.
The annual subscription to join as an associate member is £255 for 2011/2012. If you are a small voluntary charity or educational establishment membership is free but not for larger charities who have paid staff.

To join please apply in writing with a few paragraphs at the most why your organisation or company wants to join the LTOA (if you are a Local Authority this does not apply). This application will be considered at the next LTOA Executive Committee meeting (they meet every two months). Once your membership has been approved please return the appropriate subscription slip (there is one for Local Authorities and other companies/organisations) to the Executive Officer with your contact details and a cheque for the membership subscription.
If you are a Local Authority just fill out the slip and return it to the LTOA. We will then send you an official invoice from the London Borough of Camden, which holds the LTOA accounts.
All cheques must be made out to the LONDON BOROUGH OF CAMDEN as they host the LTOA and hold the LTOA accounts.

Tangible Benefits of Associate Membership
- Invitation to attend quarterly meetings and seminars where there will be an opportunity to hear the likes of new initiatives, research programmes and legislative changes. These meetings are also valuable in providing a time to network and liaise with colleagues, borough officers and extend personal working knowledge.
- Invitation to join working parties to advance particular tree management issues in a consistent way. Each working group will be fully supported by the Executive Officer who will contribute to outputs and deliverables.
- Invitation to attend site visits and special seminars/workshops as arranged throughout the year.
- Mail outs, contact lists, reports, other relevant documentation and queries will be available via the Executive Officer during normal office hours. Access to a member’s only area of the LTOA website.
- Access to developing new initiatives from the Forestry Commission, ODPM, GLA, BSI and other organisations - for the betterment and increased profiling of tree care.
- The LTOA provides educational leaflets such as Cypress Hedges - Potential Problems and Suitable Solutions, Tree work and employing a tree contractor, Brown Tail Moth, Tree Roots and Structures and Why trees are good for us. These are free to download from www.ltoa.org.uk.
Strategic Benefits of Associate Membership
Through membership to the regional LTOA each individual member will be contributing to a representative forum having a collective and strong voice, able to lobby for relevant industry issues, and which will provide additional resources, ways to achieve best practice, resolve issues and find solutions to tree related problems.
Through a single voice the LTOA strongly positions itself to liaise on behalf of its members with local authority chief officers, department heads and members, as well as external bodies such as central government, commercial organisations, research institutes and the GLA. This results in the ability to influence tree related issues at a higher, more strategic and consistent level across the board.

Please note: Only full paying London Borough members of the LTOA will have voting rights at meetings and over issues of relevance to London tree management and strategic planning issues.
